Yarn: Today I have chosen the last item I added to my stash, a skein of Louet Euroflax, in the Crabapple colorway, and I’m pretty sure I found the Euoplocephalus, though my son thinks it is an Ankylosaurus. Anyway, Euroflax is 100% linen, a fiber that I am not familiar with, but I have heard wonderful things about. This was an intentional addition to the stash, for a knit-a-long Louet is hosting on Ravelry. I will be making myself a Taimi Cowl and my yarn is already balled up and ready to go. I have heard that linen, like cotton, can be rough on the knitter’s hands, but a tip was shared with me, to wind the skein into a ball by hand, then rewind the ball into a new ball – that manipulation should make the knitting easier. I will be washing and drying this piece too – that is also supposed to make the item super soft!
Pattern: Elfe by Astrid Schramm, #1029 in my queue. Short sleeve sweaters are wonderful, they are usually finished sooner and you can always add a layer underneath. I have yarn stashed away for this as well (Manos del Uruguay Fino, in Inkwell and Peacock Plume). So why haven’t I cast it on? I’m not 100% on my color choice, can’t decide which color would be on top and the idea of a fingering weight sweater feels like an impossible task. I know it’s not, but it is the mental hang-up I have. I still love this pattern and the yarn so it could still happen!
I began knitting again at the age of 35, after my grandmother taught me to do so, when I was 12. I began working at an organization that raised alpacas and if you haven’t knit with alpaca fiber, it’s amazing. I found you by Blogging A to Z. Keep up the good work on the challenge! http://www.dianeweidenbenner.com
Thank you – alpaca is a lovely fiber for knitting!
