Plenty of people might laugh off putting your dog in a sweater or a jacket. Most people don’t have a problem with a bandanna so what’s wrong with a sweater? Jackson is a mini-dachshund, six inches off the ground with a short natural coat, and he always seeks out a little extra heat. He loves a good sun-puddle, will sit near the air vent in the winter when the heat is on, and prefers to sit on your lap and on your lap under a blanket is even better. So yes, I made him a sweater.
This is not the first sweater I have made him. I’ve had some trouble in getting the fit just right. I had a skein of Kraemer Yarns Mauch Chunky and in browsing Ravelry, was reminded that I have the Stylish Knits for Dogs You Can Knit in a Weekend book. And the dog modeling this Center Cabled Dog Sweater was a dachshund, perfect right?
I took measurements and thought I would be spot on in making the small size. It took me longer to block the sweater than it actually did to knit it, and while it has been done for a while, I just seamed it up today. The sweater is a a little short, but I’m pleased with it. The Mauch Chunky washes and blocks really nice. Jackson has been wearing the sweater all morning, without fuss, staying warm. It’s a win!
I have Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that we keep trimmed short (I just can not deal with all the fur!) so we love sweaters too!
SO CUTE!!!
That is the perfect breed for a sweater! Really shows off the cable.
