In my last post, I talked about how PatPatsHats put out the call for tiger-themed hats. You can read more about Madeline’s story on the PatPatsHats blog. I wanted to help make a few hats but the yarn had to be just right. The right shade of tiger-orange and the right materials (acrylic), neither of which is in my stash. I stopped in quickly at the LYS and picked up a few skeins of Universal Yarn Worsted Spirit Stripes. The colorway 509 MVP is perfect for tigers. This yarn is self-striping and works up to make a pretty cool argyle-ish design when knit. I was a little unsure how it would work in hat, but those concerns are gone. I have finished a hat and I think it’s grrrr-eat!
The pattern is the Cotton Skull Cap II, available free on Ravelry and was straightforward to follow. I was able to get a few quick shots of the hat on my daughter and it is a little big, but that’s ok as bigger kids need chemo hats too. When I make this again, I think I will go down a hook size or two – maybe using I & H hooks or H & G hooks instead of the J & I hooks called for in the pattern.
Linking up!
looks great! that yarn striped just right to give it a realistic look too – how lucky was that!
