From Folly Cove Blog Tour

I’m so excited & honored to be a part of the From Folly Cove Blog Tour! This collection from Julia Farwell-Clay is in collaboration with Classic Elite Yarns. Did you know Classic Elite Yarns had its origin in the late 1940s as part of an old-line textile manufacturing mill in Lowell, MA? In Julia’s introduction to the book, she talks about the Folly Cove Designers, a group of mostly women who collaborated to hand print textiles in Gloucester, MA, beginning in the 1930s through 1968. There is so much history here in New England! In case you were curious, Gloucester is pronounced “GLOSS-TAH” or “Gloss-ter” depending on how close to Boston you are 🙂

Cutis Skirt
Today’s pattern prize is the Curtis Skirt, so leave a comment below and by random number generator one person will win a copy of the pattern! I’ll draw a winner on Monday, February 2, 2015. It was one of the first patterns to catch my eye when I was sent a copy of From Folly Cove to review. The book includes eleven patterns, each one of which is unique. I was also captured by the Lanesville Pullover and the Meteori Shawl.  A bit more about the Curtis Skirt:
This skirt is named for Eleanor O’Hearn Curtis, a Cape Ann native who joined the Folly Cove Designers in 1953. A public school teacher, water-colorist, and poet, her work for the Designers is dominated by floral motifs and curvilinear forms, invoked here in the band of apple blossoms worked in bobbles and traveling stitches around the hem.
Cutis Skirt
The Curtis Skirt calls for Classic Elite Yarn Mesa, a 100% Cotton. Sizing is for XS through 2XL. You’ll need 8-14 balls of Mesa, depending on size according to the pattern. This skirt is worked in the round from the hem up. The colorway shown here is 4203 Coyote. I think I’d like to knit this in Navajo or Tumbleweed, how about you?
While I knew Julia was a “local” (in New England) designer, this is my first exposure to Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios & the Folly Cove Designers. So great to learn new things through knitting! Meanwhile, the whole collection is 10% off on Ravelry all week, so enter the code FFC10 at checkout for your 10% discount on any purchase of one or more of the collection’s patterns, even the whole ebook if you like is 10% off with the code! Tomorrow (Friday) the blog tour continues with Thread Panda, so be sure to check it out! Don’t forget to also leave a comment on the Classic Elite Blog for a chance to win yarn for the project of your choice from the book!
When you leave your comment on this post, please let me know either your email or your Ravelry ID so I can let you know if you are the winner!

  1. That’s a great design. Elegant while being soft and feminine. Jenn (comment above mine) you should try a skirt. Wool knitted skirts are fabulously versatile.

  2. Flowers on the bottom of skirt are interesting. Got me wondering if they were knitted in, as purled stitches or added later as in a sewed down I-cord. Wishing the pictures were clearer.
