This post includes what I am reading and finished objects, but each are important enough to deserve a post of their own! Last year I became an Aunt and met my most fabulous niece. A month after that she (and her parents and our family) began an incredible journey to help her with her heart. I’ve been reading and re-reading Virginia’s piece in Parade, Saving the Smallest Hearts. Please read it and ask about that pulse ox screening test for all the little babies!
When all of this started, I made a Heartcat for Violet – he’s been there for her and her parents and I’m pleased to say he is still one of her buddies! I have been sent photos of her snuggling him, and when I saw her last week we got to play a bit with him, taking turns giving him a hug and then sharing. I have upped my yarn stash to make more Heartcats – if you know of someone deserving of a heartcat, I’d be more than happy to make one. 1 in 4 babies born with a heart defect has a critical Congenital Heart Defect! In the photo above you can see the group of heartcats (they do look better together!) – the original heartcat is in the middle, the one on the left actually was lost for a short time and had an adventure in the post office, the one on the right is the first with a bowtie. Each was sent on to a child having to deal with heart issues of some sort, friends of the Might Violet. I wish them all the best! I have another one in progress that has been hibernating for a while, but it is time to get back to them in full force and in celebration of TeamViolet!
