Yay for going to the library. I just finished the Ten-Year Nap (meh. Didn’t love it or hate it.), so that went back and The Invention of Wings came home with me. My mom read it and spoke highly of it. We also found a pile of dinosaur related books. I didn’t have a dinosaur phase when I was a little kid, but I have always liked dinosaurs. My son is big into dinosaurs and that seemed to happen organically. Maybe Peppa Pig‘s brother George had some influences (he’s a younger brother who likes dinosaurs), but for at least the last 9 months or so, Nate has enjoyed acting like a dinosaur, watching reruns of Dino-Dan, playing with dinosaurs, reading dinosaur books and doing dinosaur puzzles and having dinosaur sheets on his bed. I’m enjoying learning about the dinosaurs again and they seem to be all over pop culture!
The first and most obvious dinosaur in my WIPs is the Spikey Stegosaurus. This is a brand new design from Fresh Stitches, and then I found out about the Spud & Chloe CAL! I have plans to stash up more of the Sweater line for future toy projects, it is fabulous! This has worked up so super quick and I would make one again. I have one small wish that I went down a hook size or two – I feel like there is slightly too much space in the stitches, but the stuffing stays put and you wouldn’t notice it unless you looked close.
My current sample knit needs a bit of revision, so I ripped that back and am on the right track now. I think. I will be making good use of lifelines, just in case! I have a dinosaur marker in use on this one so I can mark my progress. I started my Camp Loopy project after a bit of a misfire. I had some trouble getting gauge and I didn’t like the fabric as I went up in my needle size, so I searched for a different project. I decided on Pull Me Over. I have no dino reference for this one. Right now it looks like a watering hole?
Tour de Fleece is going on and I have stuck with it so far. Each day I have spun for 10-15 minutes on the spindle. I feel very klutzy, uncoordinated, and bewildered that people do this for fun. However, I’m not giving up. I didn’t get knitting right away either. I’m trying a few different techniques and will likely end up doing my own bizarre Frankenstein style of spinning. The spindle is almost full, in a day or two I think I’ll be able to take the yarn off of there and start anew.
Good luck with the spinning, I too am an absolute beginner. I have found that you tube is a great source of help.
Thanks! I have found you tube to be helpful as well – I’ll be sharing a few of my favorites in a future post!
I’ve just followed all the dinosaurs over from the Yarn Along on Simple Things. I’m really curious about Spikey, so I’ll check back!
Years ago I knitted a stegosaurus for my oldest son, but I didn’t bother with using the right yarn OR doing a swatch and guess what? It turned out looking absolutely ridiculous – the body was enormous, with teeny tiny spikes on top and a head that was the size of an average pin. Actually, describing it like that doesn’t sound half as bad as it looks. That said, all three boys have loved ‘Gerti the Dinosaur’ – they use her enormous body as a pillow. 😉
Thank you! I think one of the best things about dinosaurs is that we don’t know for sure what they looked like, so all sorts of body shapes and sizes are appropriate!
My two year old absolutely loves dinosaurs right now too… Dinos and monsters! It’s fun. I like the colors you choose for your dino. I hope he turned out well!
