There are a few more days to go in Q1, but since I’ve submitted my projects to EatSleepKnit for the first quarter knit-along, today works to share my finished objects! Mosaic colorwork, also known as slip stitch colorwork, is a magical technique where you only work with one color at a time using slipped stitches to create an effect that is far more complex than the actual knitting or crocheting.
Linoleum Dishcloth
One Linoleum Dishcloth by Kay Gardiner in Juniper Moon Neve, a 100% cotton. This was quick and fun as is anything I’ve ever knit from the MDK ladies. It’s in the washcloth rotation now and has held up well in the washer and dryer.
Short Line Cowl
This cowl was a test knit for the ESK Pattern academy that I signed up to test. The Short Line Cowl (available on Ravelry) is slightly tapered, which helps it sit nicer on your neck (or Lincoln’s neck, it fits him really well!). The yarns used here include Dream in Color Smooshy in Velvet Port, Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock in Natural, and Teal Torch Knits in Last Drops of Summer.
The Shift Cowl
When the Shift cowl was first published, I liked it but was distracted by other projects. Knitting this felt a bit magical, with a gradual gradient of EQ Rainbow Kauni Wool 8/2 Effektgarn against itself or the Manos del Uruguay Fino in Silver Teaset. I used the inside and outside of the Kauni as two of the three colorways. This bandana style cowl sits just right and is so warm!
I had a moment of panic that I missed some part of the instructions, as after I cast off, my piece did not in any way look like the schematic. I blocked it out and it still wasn’t quite right, but then walking around the table to look at it from a different perspective:
Bingo! Then it matched the schematic and I could see where it gets seamed together.
I also knit a TIE Fighter hat from the Knitting the Galaxy book, but I don’t have the final pictures ready to share yet.
Up Next…
These projects earned me a number of badges, yardages, and stars – all imaginary points! The project for quarter 2 is fingering weight socks and I am hoping to really max out and knit over 2001 yards. My estimates is that is 7 pairs of socks. I’m already plotting.
