After dabbling with a few random boxes from Stitch Fix, I finally decided to go ahead and sign up for the monthly box. I have had several hits and a few misses and that’s ok. In case you haven’t heard of Stitch Fix, it is an online service where after you answer a series of questions about clothes, fashion, and what you are looking for, you are sent a box of 5 items to try on! You keep what you like, send back what you don’t! It’s very easy and very convenient. I hate to shop – it’s time consuming and I stick to items I already have in my closet. With Stitch Fix, I have been nudged a little outside of my comfort zone but have found some really fun items (tops and sweaters) and a pair of skinny jeans that I absolutely love and would never have picked up on my own!
This recent fix included 2 tops, 1 sweater, 1 necklace and a dress. I liked everything right out of the box, except for the necklace, it’s really not my style. But I was a good sport and tried it on as instructed with the styling idea cards. I really hoped the dress would fit, that won me over completely.
The dress is adorable, I love it. No question on that one, I’m keeping it – need to find shoes for it, and I am also looking for a jean jacket (tip from the styling card). The colorblock sweater was ok on, a little too big so I’m sending it back. It also ties in the back at the neck and I wasn’t wild about that. If it fit better I would have lived with it. The blue top was a beautiful shade, but the fabric would wrinkle in an instant and I don’t bother with ironing my clothes any more, so that was sent back too. The pink top was not something I would have picked up but the pattern was interesting and a little bit different. This one was also a bit too big and the buttons started a bit too far down on my chest for my comfort level, so back it goes.
I have tried to pin more on pinterest to give the stylist an idea of what I like, and while I have made requests in the past (example: Help! I need tops to go with the leggings I bought!”) this box had no requests so it was totally left up to the stylist and I think she did a great job. The links to Stitch Fix in this post are affiliate links – if you decide to try it out, I’ll get a little bit of a credit to put toward my next box. No pressure, just sharing something I enjoy!
I have heard of this kind of service, and it does sound interesting. I worry that I’d end of keeping — and spending! — way too much!
I hear you! If you decide to keep all 5 items in the box, you do get a discount on the whole thing, FYI. I’ve never done that (yet) – on the plus side, each box only has 5 items in it! You can schedule a monthly box or on a different schedule, so I think it’s still better than spending a whole afternoon and checking out however many stores and maybe spending way more!
That’s a monthly box I could get behind! Hopefully they ship to Canada so I can try it next year when I relocate from Japan! 😀
