Yarn: A Touch of Twist Aussie in Peacock – a Rhinebeck purchase from 2009. Laceweight, but the prettiest shade of teal blue. I have 600 yards and currently no plans for it.
Pattern: As You Wish by Pamela Northrup. A massive lace undertaking, in 1200 yards of laceweight. I do have 1300 yards of Tucker Woods Phoebe laceweight in Starry Starry Night (purchased at a local fiber festival several years ago), but my mental hangup is that I am not a lace knitter. I have 4 projects in Ravelry using laceweight, an a handful in the queue. I do love this pattern though…how could you not? I’m a huge Princess Bride Fan (read the book, the new book and got the glass)
from the Ravelry pattern page: Inspired by a book and movie that I have loved for years, “As You Wish” is a circular shawl featuring images from The Princess Bride. At the center of the shawl are the words “AS YOU WISH” with two hearts representing Buttercup and Westley. Surrounding that are alternating crowns for Prince Humperdinck and the flames of the Fire Swamp. Rows of feather and fan lace recall the ocean waves, sailed by Westley in his time as the Dread Pirate Roberts, who is of course represented by the skull and crossbones. Those are flanked by lines of eyelets which indicate the Shrieking Eels. And of course, the edging of the shawl is Buttercup Lace, for the Princess Bride herself.
I’m more likely to start and finish an Akron Cowl by Heather Zopetti, from Everyday Lace (click here to read my review of her book). I really like lace at the heavier weights – the Dorflinger Tee is one of my most favorite projects to date!
That shawl is stunning! I do like the Akron Cowl, it looks infinitely more easy to make 🙂
Gorgeous … I must share this as I have friends who are avid knitters…

Great start to the challenge! wow – that is a gorgeous shawl – but I can sure appreciate the daunting task of considering it! For as much as I adore lace weight shawls and knitting, I just can’t manage it myself. It’s like knitting with the finest string – and I get all tangled up! Still, what a gorgeous project. And, as an aside, I have to marvel at those who can design such beautiful patterns.
Cheers 🙂
I love knitting with lace yarn and that’s an amazing shawl! I also love your yarn pick – it’s one of my favourite colours at the moment.
I love that color! If i was a knitter, I crochet instead but that shawl is really something else. And as a princess bride fan I love the idea behind it!
That is a glorious pattern….but I can see why lace-knitters had problems with their eyes in the past! Holy smokes!
