C2C and a subtle chipmunk

I mentioned last time that I am on Team Knitmunk for the Yarnathon this year. Some of the chat in the Ravelry forums swirled around having a dedicated project bag for team or yarnathon projects. An Etsy search did result in a few options but nothing really grabbed me, so I stopped in my local fabric store. I have to say, the folks at the fabric store didn’t bat an eye when I said I was looking for chipmunk fabric, and they totally understood that squirrel fabric would not be an acceptable substitute.

I didn’t go in with a plan beyond thinking I wanted to pick up some fabric for a project bag. After settling on the fabric (Moda Grunge & Tula Pink Chipper), I asked about bag patterns, and the women mentioned a great project in the School of Sewing book (which I already had, yay!) and gave me a quick tutorial on using a bias tape maker (very handy).

I had one oops! moment when I placed the pieces before sewing. I was able to adjust by trimming things down to match up. And, lesson learned, the chipmunk is not the central focus of the bag, that’s all how I cut the fabric. I do like that it’s a subtle chipmunk like he’s peeking out before scurrying, as they do.

I love this little bag. It’s the right size for a sock project, but the first project to christen it is the Elisabeth Triangle Scarf by Elisabeth Desamour. Apart from her Instagram photos, the description caught my attention, “The pattern was written with the crocheter who loves the look of C2C crochet but is not ready to commit to the decrease part or a full blanket!”  That’s me! And I also had the same yarn, Malabrigo Rios, in my stash. I’ve cast on and so far so good. This is a pattern that is really relaxing to work and I’m looking forward to devoting more time to it!

  1. I love chipmunks. We have a lot on our deck at times. I also love the color of your yarn. The pattern looks difficult.
