Donating blood is such a simple gesture, but one I take great pride in and a cause I believe in. I signed up in high school as soon as I was old enough and have given when I could over the years. I would like to make it a much more regular habit. January is National Blood Donor month, so it’s as good a time as any to start! I hoped to do a Double Red Donation, but I don’t meet my state’s eligibility requirements. That’s ok, I was still able to make a donation.
Blood is not something that can be manufactured, and that’s just one fact of many I find fascinating. Every two seconds someone needs blood?! Amazing. I intend to keep on giving as long and as often as I can – you’d be hard to find another way in which and hour of your time, and giving 1 pint of your blood (you have about 10 pints) could help save up three people!
Today my little blood drop is also sporting a tiger ribbon for Madeline. Due to location and time constrictions, I’m not able to donate platelets – which are needed by patients undergoing chemotherapy – but we were thinking about her! I also got a long sleeved t-shirt (cool!) and a Dunkin Donuts card as a thank you. Makes for a good day!
