Confession time.
I start way more projects than I finish. I’m not a monogamous maker. I stash more yarn than I will ever use in my lifetime. Next to my usual knitting spot on the couch is my desk. Supplies for marking a pattern are within reach, there is a spot for my drink, and it’s near outlets, so I can have the mobile devices charging while I watch podcasts or binge on Parks & Rec. (That’s a post for a different day. I don’t usually watch sitcoms, but this show is fantastic.) The desk is also engulfed with works-in-progress, all at different points in progress and craft category. There are projects on top of, in the main desk area, in the bench seat, and underneath the desk.
Wait, how many WIPs?
I’m not exaggerating when I said engulfed. I counted two dozen knitting and crochet WIPs, 1 cross stitch project, 1 English Paper Piecing/embroidery project. Several of those are projects I started this year for my Make Nine plan, so more recent WIPs. Though we are almost halfway through 2018…
Clear the Desk!
I’m challenging myself to clear the desk. It is a good desk and should be used as such, not just as a surface to catch my projects. A blog post makes it official right? My plan is to have at least a weekly accountability post: which projects were worked on? were new projects added? what was deemed ready to be put away? As I was checking the bags I found a few bags right away with yarn that can be returned to the stash and two projects that are not so far along that I do not feel bad about ripping out completely.
Will I have a usable desk space by the fall? Stay tuned!
I thought I was the only one with WIP. Mine are Crochet and Quilting. At my age (80) I better hurry up and finish or they will probably be tossed after my demise. lol.
