Storm Prep

Empty Egg ShelvesWe’re getting ready for a doozy of a snowstorm this week. The last blizzard was incredible. I think we’re still mentally sore from all the shoveling and cabin fever and have a better idea of what to expect. Sort of. The media and local politicians are using intimidating adjectives that just make us squirm. Hopefully it’s to drive home the point that people should not go out if they don’t have to (and my heart goes out to those that do!). We’re prepped as well as we can be, and it seems that most people are taking the French Toast alert to heart. Sure I was one of those people at the grocery store on Sunday, buying more bread and milk (and juice and snacks). I was really surprised that almost all the eggs were gone! I’ve lived in New England forever and I know the storm prep drill – they say Snow and you go get bread and milk. But I’ve never seen the shelves look like that! Anyway. If this storm is a repeat of 2013 and we’re stuck here until the payloaders come we will only suffer cabin fever not a bread and milk shortage.

I’ve got plenty of knitting and crochet to keep me busy. During the last blizzard I crocheted a slug, and I have started working on the Fresh Stitches Sally the Snowflake pattern as it felt appropriate! Hopefully I’ll be able to report back on Wednesday with a blizzard update. Stay safe if you’re in the path of this storm!

My husband shared this video with me and it is the most accurate way to sum up the craziness that you see around here when snow is predicted.

So this week, my Monday motivation:

  1. Here in Arkansas any time the weather guy even almost mentions snow or ice, that’s what the grocery shelves look like. I saw a couple of people nearly come to blows over a loaf of bread once. This was when the weatherman mentioned that the computer models were showing a chance of ice/snow in ten days to two weeks. Crazy.

  2. That Eeyore pic is so cute! I’m also amused about the craziness involved in storm prep. The thing I worry about most is power outages. Our little apartment is FREEZING without any heat and it’s times like these I wish we were off the grid and self-sufficient, at least heat-wise.
