Accessories Friday Finish Aug14

I’ve been working through my seemingly never-ending pile of WIPs and I finished projects! Here’s the recap.

Hats

I always have hats to talk about! The first is the PB Sandwich Hat I test knit in the EatSleepKnit Pattern Academy. I met the designer, Shana, earlier this summer at the Virtual Zombie Knitpocalypse Retreat. I was struck by her energy and enthusiasm as well as her design skills. The description for the hat really caught me, “For me, a peanut butter sandwich is the ultimate comfort food. Fresh bread and a layer of peanut butter create a simple and irresistible combination. Looking for the peanut butter sandwich of hats? “ Lady, you’re preaching the choir!

This was a fun knit. The inside brim is a Unicorn Tail from Madelinetosh in Silver Fox and the body is Western Sky Knits Twinkle Sock in Quasar. It’s a very cool grey-silver-purple yarn with sparkles! I knit the large adult beanie style and the pattern has lots of size options. Success!

Shana is starting a website, and you can download a copy of the hat for free when you sign up for her newsletter!

More hats! I’m a hat cranking machine. In July I made 46 hats of assorted sizes and styles. There is a big Rubbermaid bin in my basement that was nearly full of the random big box acrylic yarns I’ve gathered over the years. Do you have one of those too? That is the main yarn supply of many of these hats, but I had good luck with bigger name commercial LYS staples and indie dyed yarns. This month I’m focusing on using leftover sock yarns (held double) to make roll-brim baby hats.

Crocheted Fingerless Mitts

Two skeins of AndeanSun Yarns Worsted Weight Baby Alpaca Wool blend yarn turned into these cute fingerless mitts with the wave of a crochet hook. It’s the Rib-It Pattern which is a freebie on Ravelry. Can’t go wrong here, except maybe asking my daughter to model them because I think she may claim them.

Headband

One skein of neon Dale Garn Freestyle marinated in the stash for years. This Medallion Headband is the intention of being visible with warm ears running in cooler days. Today is not one of those days, so awkward selfie it is.

How about that, WIPs and FOs all accounted for this week. And I’ve got yarn at the ready to wind up for my next cast on and it’s not a hat!
