AtoZ Challenge I is for

I is forYarn: Irish Eyes (by Ceallach Dyes) has held a stash spot for a very long time. It was sent to me as a swap gift and it intimidated me at first. I had not knit anything in laceweight at that point in my knitting career, and the variegated color, though gorgeous, stumped me. Now, years later, it still sits in stash, but it is prized because I know that 1750 yards of laceweight has a ton of potential! Remember though, I am not a “lace knitter” – so while I could knit a huge shawl, I don’t know that I want to. The Vortex Shawl is a possible pattern as I think it would work well with the yarn, but I’m open to holding it doubled (so 875 yards of whatever weight to make…?). So for now, it sits.

Pattern: I don’t have many patterns in my queue that begin with the letter “I” so it wasn’t too difficult to choose one for today. Every time I see il grande favorito, I sigh. Doesn’t it look like the coziest thing ever? Just a simple sweater. I have no idea what I might use for a yarn, but it might be a great excuse to indulge my stash (if you ignore the fact that the stash grew this week with the arrival a few yarn clubs and two treats for myself). I don’t need more yarn, but to make an intentional purchase, for this particular sweater – that could be ok!

  1. Hi Becca,
You write about a lot today worth commenting on…..There are probably quite a few pattern options for tonal/variegated yarn like your Irish Eyes. That Vortex Shawl is quite the ambitious project. For me, it’s way too busy. When I searched for just “Vortex” in Ravelry, there were so many patterns that came up that I like a whole lot better with the same yarn.

I too have plenty in my stash that I don’t need to buy anything more. I even belong to a “Use Stash prior to purchasing more” Group on FB but that doesn’t seem to be a deterrent. 🙁 Yet yarn skeins keep arriving…

Here in the Nutmeg State, the sweater would be quite useful with the weather this week. As my neighbor shared, the chill cuts right to the bone. Hope you enjoy making it!

Thanks again for your blog and keep on sharing!
