Calm Cowl Finished

Nutmegknitter's Calm Cowl

One FO this week, and it is already off and into the wild. Well, maybe not the wild, but there is a good chance you can see this cowl at the Common Ground Fair in Maine. This was a sample for Good Karma Farm and they are vending there this weekend. They now have a sport weight yarn in their line up and I used 100% of the skein to make a Calm Cowl in the Shark Juice colorway. This yarn is wonderful in the hand, warm and lightweight. Picking up more of this at Rhinebeck is on my list!

Modeled Cowl

I think I was a few rows short of the actual pattern, but I’m totally pleased with the result. I used a foundation single crochet to start this off and took a deep breath when I joined in the round. I was lucky and I didn’t twist it when I joined the ends! That was the trickiest part of the project. I really enjoyed making the fsc, and then truly, it was a calming experience to work this up. I love how the stitch pattern looks a little bit like knit linen stitch. I think it would work really well to help avoid pooling in a variegated yarn but I’m also thinking about working this in a solid grey with a stripe or two of purple or pink, to use up some stash that has been sitting around for too long. The initial cast-on / joining took a longer amount of time than the actually crocheting of the rows in my opinion – I cast-on and joined over 2 days and the body of the cowl was done in one day.

Dinosaur on Cowl

Hooray – it’s the weekend! Happy Friday!
