Christmas Stocking

It’s not my final finished object of the year, but I am super excited to share the Christmas stocking I finished yesterday.

Nutmegknitter's green & white knit stocking.

The stockings we pull out each year are a mishmash of our stockings from when we were kids and a few pairs that we were given as wedding gifts. They are all lovely, but I’ve wanted our little family to have similar-yet-different-coordinating stockings. I purchased yarn to knit stockings for all of us back in 2015. Dan’s stocking was cast on in 2016. I’m not sure why I stalled but wasn’t too far from being finished when I pulled it back out after Thanksgiving.

I’m hoping this will motivate me to complete the set – 3 more to go! – in 2019. I’m using Dorene Delaney Giordano’s pattern, A Collection of Three Christmas Stockings. My original plan was to use Cascade 220 Superwash for all of them, Dan’s in green, mine in blue, and red for each of the kids. Now I’m thinking maybe use red for the girls and green for the boys, for a more cohesive look, even if the solor work patterns are different. I picked up a yard of fabric from the local shop to line the stockings, so they will have that in common as well.

Inside of the stocking to show the colorwork floats.

I have room to improve on my color work though on the whole, I think it looks pretty good! I didn’t have too many issues with puckering, except at the sides and those floats on the inside look okay.

Have a very Merry Christmas!
