Yarn Along June 18

Yarn along June 18I’m including the books I’m reading with my kids for this week’s Yarn Along. My son, like most 2.5 year olds, likes repetition. We’ve been reading and re-reading the same books over and over and that’s ok, but I wanted something different. I introduced him to Where the Wild Things Are this week, one of my favorite books. He was so enthralled – we read it once and his eyes were just huge! Then he asked for it again. And again and again and again. This is a first – when we read a new book he’ll sit and listen, but then he’ll go back and get one of the books he prefers. I really love that he is taken with this book. We’ve also started reading The Borrrowers with my daughter, who is 6.5.  I haven’t read it since I was a kid, and I had forgotten most of it. I think my daughter is listening to it but not really loving it – even with my editing for some of the language I think it goes over her head. Maybe when we’re done with it we can find a copy of Arrietty to watch. I’m still reading The Reading Promise and it’s very sweet. I think it’s good when a book stirs something in you and this one brings fond memories of my dad reading to me (side note: I can only remember him reading the Sunday Comics to me – Prince Valiant in particular, and Grimms Fairy Tales. But I know we read more than that!) and makes me wonder how long I’ll be reading to my kids, if they’ll enjoy it or even want to do it.

On to the projects! I’ve got a Dino-amigurumi in progress for my son (and it’s the mascot for the eat.sleep.knit yarnathon Q2 challenge) but I’ve run out of stuffing! I’m on to the sleeves of the sample knit, the Summit Shawl is moving but slow going. I tried knitting backwards so I wouldn’t keep turning my work every 12 stitches and I don’t know that that actually saves me any time.  My socks are so close to being done, hooray!

Linking Up!

  1. I just added the Summit shawl to my favorites on Ravelry. What a beautiful garment. Thank you for introducing me to it. BTW, I loved the Borrowers as a kid.
